Happy Father’s Day

smiley_fathersday1

This holiday needs a theme song. I don’t know what would be a good one. Perhaps someone could write one and record it for next year?

Airport Hopping

The airport had more celebrities running through it this week than any other airport in the country. Except perhaps when L. A. has the Oscars. But around here, we had both the CMA fest and Bonnaroo, and flying into the Nashville airport was the main access point for hundreds of performers and other celebrities these past two weeks. Imagine the autographs you could get if you just hung out near the baggage claim and limo/taxi areas.

New WordPress Release

I know a lot of people are looking forward to Wednesday. That’s when the new version of WordPress will be released. I have been trying to learn more about the blogging software and the different programs out there for bloggers. It seems that WordPress has the best featrues. And the cool thing is that most of the work is done by volunteers. They do it because they love it.

Game Apps

mystapp

I just read that there is a new iPhone app for the Myst game.

So now you can play this on your cell phone. How cool is that? Imagine sitting on a subway train and playing Myst every morning on the way to work – instead of staring out the train window at the same old scenery – if you can call it that. The train I take goes through industrial parks and warehouses, then it goes through the slums and backside of the city. My morning scenery is filled with grafitti and rusted junkers.

I would much rather play Myst than stare at that stuff.

The Ryman

The best known Grand Ole Opry building was originally a church (formally called the Union Tabernacle) located in the heart of Nashville and is now called The Ryman Auditorium.

The Union Tabernacle was turned into a performing stage in 1943 and used to broadcast a popular variety show on Saturday nights over the am radio station, WSM.

There is history and deep reasons for radio station call letters. I had to learn about that when I went into radio ad sales briefly, years ago. That in itself is an interesting story and maybe I’ll share that later in a separate post.

The WSM call letters were adopted because the owner of the station was an insurance company and their slogan was, “We Shield Millions.”
